KAMATZ

Kamatz is the first of the vowels we have learned. When Kamatz is under a letter it makes the letter say Ah.

We made a Kamatz City - using different toys from around our room to form building only using kamatz shapes.

We made our exhibits and then walked around the room to view the creations just like in a museum.

We then did lots of activities over the week to help us remember how kamatz is read. We practiced blending it with all the letters and played many games.

Torah starts with the letter Taf. When Taf has no dot inside it is called Saf. We were so excited to reach the last letter of the Alef Beis. We had a party, played games had a special cookie treat and wrote down as many of the letters of the Alef Beis as we could.

We also drew pictures of our favourite mitzvos and we turned these into Torah Scrolls.

Everybody had a chance to select the correct letters to write the word Torah in Hebrew on their cover. We danced and can't wait to bring our special Torahs home

ALEF BEIS COMPLETION

We recently completed the entire Alef Beis and are now learning to blend the letters with nekudos (vowels)

Below are some of the activities we did for the rest of the letters.

YUD

Baby Yud is the tiniest letter in the whole Alef Beis. We were very quiet and gentle as baby Yud was passed around.

We made our bodies as small as can be to curl up into a Yud shape.

KAF

Kaf is the first letter in the word Kosher We learned about dividing meat and dairy food and classified them into groups. We placed a kosher candy as the dot inside the Kaf.
We also played kaddur l' where we threw a ball to a friend on the carpet, we cut on a kaf, formed a kaf with playdough and put a dot in the middle of the kafs on our charts.

Mem Sofit

Mem Sofit only comes at the end of a word. It has a square shape and is closed. We used partners to form a mem sofit. Mayim (water) ends with a mem sofit.

Nun

Nun is the first letter in the word ner candle.
We did magic on the carpet, drawing a nun with a white candle on white paper and making the picture appear with water colour paint.

Nun sofit is very long and we stood on our tippy toes to make it with our bodies.

Samech

Circle Samech is the first letter in the word salat (salad). For health month, Mrs Kats came to make salad with our class. We also made it again during Ivrit. It was delicious.

AYIN

Ayin is also an eye in Hebrew. We pasted eynayim (eyes) inside the letter Ayin.

Tzadik

A Tzadik is a holy person. We learned that the shape of a tzadik is special because the letter is bending over and allowing yud to ride on its back. Tzadik sofit is the last letter in the word eitz (tree). We each made our own eitz and sorted the letters into the right place.

KUF

Kiddush starts with kuf. We played lots of review games to help us remember all the letters we learned so far.
Pipe cleaners bent into the shape of our favorite letters was such a fun activity. Everybody tried twisting and shaping them and we even got to take them home.
