Kindergarten continues our handwriting by moving on to our Magic C Unit! Morah brought out her friend, Magic C Bunny...he told us that the letter C is magic because it can turn into G, O, Q.
Each student got to hold our Magic C Bunny! The fun didn't end there...we even got to dance to our magic c rap song!

Understanding and Counting Teens
In math, Morah first reviewed how to form our number. We say:
1-2-3-4 all face the same way
5-6 are in a mix
7-8-9-10 phew...back in line again
This helps the children remember that the numbers all face the same way except for 5 & 6.
Below the children are learning how to use Montessori teen hangers and beads to understand the concept of teen numbers. We first place a line of beads that total 10 on a hook. On the hook next to it we place one bead...this makes 11. The children continue this idea through 19.

Phonics Fun!
We have been working on our handwriting and phonics skills. Kindergarten has also been introduced to various word families such as "AT", "AN", "AD" and more. These word families make up words such as cat, mat, fan, man, dad, sad. We meet at the carpet to change our word family chart and practice these word families with our magnetic letters.
Below the children are doing a worksheet to match word family words to pictures.
We also continue to review our beginning sounds by using stamps that have a picture and a word. The word is missing the beginning sound. We also have stamps missing the ending and middle sounds. In this center we are also practicing sounding out and reading words.
To review letter recognition to pictures that begin with that sound, we play a board game. The board is filled with various pictures. A player picks a card with a picture on it and you have to find a picture on the board that begins or ends with the same sound as the picture on the card.
Lastly for our centers we also use a memory card game that has the children matching letters to pictures with that beginning sound.

Trip to the Fire Station!
Kindergarten has been learning about community helpers. Today we got the opportunity to visit the Fire Station! A fireman spoke about fire safety. He showed the children his helmet and air mask he uses and explained that we should not be afraid of their uniforms or hide from them if there were an emergency. He also explained the importance of having an escape plan for your family. Speaking of family, Sammy's mom happened to be passing by and joined us for a few moments!
After, each child had the opportunity to sit in the fire truck. We had a great time!
