Phonics Fun!

We have been working on our handwriting and phonics skills. Kindergarten has also been introduced to various word families such as "AT", "AN", "AD" and more. These word families make up words such as cat, mat, fan, man, dad, sad. We meet at the carpet to change our word family chart and practice these word families with our magnetic letters.

Below the children are doing a worksheet to match word family words to pictures.

We also continue to review our beginning sounds by using stamps that have a picture and a word. The word is missing the beginning sound. We also have stamps missing the ending and middle sounds. In this center we are also practicing sounding out and reading words.

To review letter recognition to pictures that begin with that sound, we play a board game. The board is filled with various pictures. A player picks a card with a picture on it and you have to find a picture on the board that begins or ends with the same sound as the picture on the card.

Lastly for our centers we also use a memory card game that has the children matching letters to pictures with that beginning sound.
