What's been happening in Alef Beis?

Vav

Vav is shaped like a VERED
We learned that the letter Vav is shaped like a Vered (a rose). We made a vered vav in our center time to help us remember. Our reading sheets also had each letter inside a vered.

We played lots of games like
  1. VAV racing. 2 children shaped their body like a vav and had a vav jumping race.
  2. Alef Beis Candy Land. We have dice with alef beis letters instead of numbers. When we roll,  we move our piece to the CLOSEST letter which is shown on the gameboard.
  3. Whats missing? This is like the homework card game. The Morah lines up the cards and takes one away. The children guess which is missing
  4. Hot and Cold. A child hides the letter, another child has to find it. The class helps by saying the name of the letter softer and louder. Softly means it is far away and loudly means we are very close!
We also made a vav out of sand paper. We will trace these with our eyes closed and guess what it is.

Hay

We learned that Hashem begins with the letter Hay. It is kind of like Hashem giving us a hug. We are the little people below and Hashem is all around us. There is also a little part of Hashem inside all of us.
We used a partner to shape our bodies like a Hay.

In pairs, we shaped our body like Hay

We said HAY in a BIG LOUD voice when we saw the BIG HAY.
We whispered Hay in a small, soft voice when we saw the little Hay

We played the 'what is missing?' card game and even got a set each to take home

We dipped pulled out a sparking letter from the bag and moved our piece to the closest matching letter on the board

Daled

The word delet (door) begins with daled. Everybody made a delet which 'opened' and a daled was standing behind. We colored it in.
Cutting out the delet was a little tricky but it was so cool to have a craft which could open and shut like a real door.

We shaped our bodies like a daled. It has a little piece sticking out, so we made sure to lean our heads right back.

 Gimmel

Gimmel is always running to do a mitzvah. We did so many activities to help us remember its shape and recognise it when mixed with other letters.
We even designed gimmels using some of the toys in our room.

I can name the letters we have learned so far! I only colored the gimmels :)
